The Shiny Dime Challenge

The 10-week "Shiny Dime" challenge, organized by the Write of Passage platform, is one designed to help writers develop their creative voices and write concise pieces so that the focal point of their writing doesn't get lost in or overwhelmed by other details in their writing.

Week one of this writing challenge tasked us writers to elaborate on one rule that we live by and why. This prompt challenged us to focus on the main point we were trying to convey through our writing without including any superfluous details. I chose to write about a mantra I live by which is "live with unbridled passion and unabashed fervor"

Week two of this writing challenge tasked us with simplifying a complex question, idea, or concept. The goal of this challenge was to be concise without stripping away necessary layers of detail and intricacy.  I chose to tackle the topic of black holes and their pathological behavior.

The goal for week three of this writing challenge was to go for density instead of brevity. The difference between being concise and overly simplifying a piece of writing is that condensing your writing into fewer words retains the necessary layers of complexity that allow your creative voice to shine through. This week, the prompt tasked us with describing an obstacle we have overcome so the piece I wrote was a modification of my college admissions personal essay.

Week 4 of the Shiny Dime writing challenge seems like it would be the easiest, but is one of the most difficult. The prompt calls for writers to produce a one-sentence summary of their favorite film or novel. One mere sentence is all we are allowed to capture the raw, complex essence of some of the greatest media works. For this challenge, I am choosing to describe the movie " The Dead Poets Society" namely because this work of film inspired me to become more serious about my writing
