A Gallery Walk Through My Brain

I created this page to share pieces of my creative writing with the world; to allow readers to take a gallery walk around my brain. My hope is that my courage to share my own work will embolden young, talented writers to share their own writing and allow readers from all around the globe into their own worlds.

Through the Eyes of an Imprint

Genre: Non Fiction Memoir

Status: Final Editing Stage

I was diagnosed with high functioning autism this year and it completely changed the way I view myself and my experiences. I realized, that before I knew I was autistic I thought I was abnormal and "not normal enough" to be loved, or to have friends or to make a difference in the world. I'm sure I am not alone in feeling this way so I decided to write a memoir titled "Through the Eyes of an Imprint"to destigmatize autism and to write about my lived experiences as someone with high functioning autism. My goal is to publish this piece to raise awareness about what autism really is and make others with autism feel less alone.

Written Apology to Medusa

Genre: Prose Poetry

While I was in Istanbul I saw the statues of Medusa in the Basilica Cistern. They were flipped upside down and turned on their side by the Romans who created them supposedly to prevent people from turning into stone when they looked at it. But I wrote this poem from a perspective that puts this decision into a different context and ties it into Medusa's story of injustice.

Why do I write?

My journey as a creative writer started in Mr.Grelecki’s 5th-grade classroom. I knew him to be a teacher who truly supported me in every endeavor I pursued, whether writing or spelling bee competitions. And he was one figure in my life who saw through my shy demeanor and encouraged me in ways that no one had before. In ways that stuck with me and changed me as a student and as a person. One instance, in particular, was when he told me that he hoped I would drive faster than I wrote, referring to my verbose writing tendencies and habit of including superfluous details. Of course, he meant this as a humorous quip and it inspired me to develop my creative voice and style as a writer.

Thus, my burgeoning writing career started and the more I wrote, the more intense my desire to write became. I found myself planning short stories and writing poetry in my head when I was bored, and I filled my free time with reading novels by my favorite authors such as Ray Bradbury and the Brontes, to gain inspiration

Thank you Mr.Grelecki, for seeing me as the impassioned student that I was, and for always supporting me. I wouldn’t be the same writer or person that I am today without the formative experience of being your student.
